India made three
Cha(wla)nges to their playing eleven – Virender Sehwag, Piyush and Praveen Kumar
made way for Robin Uthappa, One-day International debutant Pragyan Ojha and
Manpreet Gony (who never represented India again).
Bangladesh made two changes to the eleven that last played the Indians – Shahriar Nafees and Dolar Mahmud
made way for Nazimuddin and Shahadat Hossain. On winning the toss, Mohammad
Ashraful, their skipper, chose to bat.
The mononymous
opener, whose nine-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. Five
overs into the match, he was caught by Ojha. R P Singh broke the N(azimudd)ineteen-run
stand.
Bangladesh scored
50 off 9.4 overs (60 balls). India had conceded a couple of extras at that
point. The second Powerplay of their innings was between the 11th
and the 15th over.
Ashraful, whose 21-ball innings included four
boundaries, scored 20. Forty-four balls after Nazimuddin’s dismissal, he was
caught by Ojha. Gony broke the 47-run stand.
Fifteen overs into

Kapali’s half-century

Uthappa, who faced
11 balls, scored just a couple. Twenty balls into the chase, Hossain broke the
14-run stand.

Rohit Sharma, whose 23-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 22.
Thirty-seven balls after Uthappa’s dismissal, he was caught by Reza. Hossain broke
