India D(hon)isappoint the Sri Lankans

India made just one change to their playing eleven – Sreesanth made way for Praveen Kumar. Sri Lanka made just one to the eleven that last played the Indians – Nuwan Kulasekara made way for Ishara Amerasinghe.

On winning the toss, Mahela Jayawardene, Sri Lanka’s skipper, chose to bat. Tillakaratne Dilshan, who faced four balls, scored as many. His runs came by way of a boundary. Four balls into the match, he was caught by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India’s skipper. Munaf Patel broke the four-run stand.

The second-wicket pair put on just a couple. Jayasuriya, who faced (Sana)three balls, didn’t get off the mark. (Pat)Eleven balls later, he was run out.

While the second Powerplay of Sri Lanka’s innings was between the 11th and the 15th over, the third Powerplay of third innings was between the 16th and the 20th over.

Sixteen overs into the match, the first drinks break was taken. Sri Lanka had scored 47 for the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. While Kumar Sangakkara, the player of the match, was batting on 22, Jayawardene was batting on 18.

Sri Lanka scored 50 off 17.1 overs (105 balls). India had conceded three extras at that point. The contributions of both Sangakkara and Jayawardene to the partnership was 24 apiece.

Sri Lanka scored 100 off 27.1 overs (165 balls). India had conceded three extras at that point. Sangakkara’s half-century – which included three boundaries – came off 88 balls.

The third-wicket pair put on 100 off 157 balls. While Sangakkara’s contribution to the partnership was 48, Jayawardene’s contribution to it was 49. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.

Jayawardene’s half-century – which included four boundaries – came off 74 balls. Thirty-two overs into the match, the second drinks break was taken. Sri Lanka had scored 122 for the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. While Sangakkara was batting on 59, Jayawardene was batting on 55.

Sri Lanka scored 150 off 36.2 overs (222 balls). India had conceded five extras at that point. The third-wicket pair put on 150 off 212 balls. While Sangakkara’s contribution to the partnership was 76, Jayawardene’s contribution to it was 68. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was half-a-dozen.

The third-wicket pair eventually put on 153. Jayawardene, whose 99-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, eventually scored 71. Two hundred and eleven balls later, Kumar ran him out. The fourth-wicket pair put on a couple. Chamara, who faced five balls, scored a run. Half-a-dozen balls later, Rohit Sharma (Kapugede)ran him out.

Sri Lanka scored 200 off 45.3 overs (278 balls). India had conceded seven extras at that point. Sangakkara’s century – which included eight boundaries – came off 141 balls.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 46 balls. While Sangakkara’s contribution to the partnership was 32, Chamara Silva’s contribution to it was 18. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Sangakkara, whose 155-ball innings included a dozen balls later, eventually scored 128. Sixty-two balls after Kapugedera’s dismissal, he was caught by Kumar. Irfan Pathan broke the 73-run partnership.

Silva, who faced 30 balls, eventually scored 21. Three balls later, he was caught by Robin Uthappa. Harbhajan Singh broke the one-run stand. Farveez Maharoof, who faced four balls, scored three. He was unbeaten, as Vaas Chaminda, who faced a ball, scoring a run.

India eventually conceded nine extras. Sri Lanka scored 238 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 50 overs. Yuvraj Singh, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded five. Kumar and Ishant bowled 10 wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 49, the latter conceded 44.

Harbhajan and Pathan bowled 10 overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 54, the latter conceded 44. Patel bowled nine overs, including a couple of maidens. He conceded 38, picking up a scalp.

Sachin Tendulkar, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the mark. Lasith Malinga had a reason to be in seventh heaven – he broke the two-run stand. The second-wicket pair put on 31. Uthappa, who faced 28 balls, scored 10. Fifty-three balls later, Uthappa ran him out.

The second Powerplay of India’s innings was between the 11th and the 15th over. Gambhir, whose 34-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 15. Ten balls after Uthappa’s dismissal, he was caught by Sangakkara. Amerasinghe broke the two-run stand.

India scored 50 off 14.5 overs (91 balls). Sri Lanka had conceded nine extras at that point. Fifteen overs into the match, the first drinks break was taken. India had scored 51 for the loss of three wickets at that point. While Rohit was in seventh heaven, Yuvraj was batting on 10.

The third Powerplay of India’s innings was between the 16th and the 20th over. The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 54 balls. While Rohit’s contribution to the partnership was 17, Yuvraj’s contribution to it was 31. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.

Rohit, whose 36-ball innings included a boundary, scored 24. Seventy balls after Gambhir’s dismissal, he was caught by Silva. Muttiah Muralitharan broke the 64-run partnership.
India scored 100 off 23.4 overs (146 balls). Sri Lanka had conceded 11 extras at that point.

India scored 150 off 31.3 overs (194 balls). Sri Lanka had conceded 15 extras at that point. The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off as many balls. While Yuvraj’s contribution to the partnership was 31, Dhoni’s contribution to it was 17. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was four.

Yuvraj, whose 70-ball innings included 10 boundaries and a six, eventually scored 76. Fifty-eight balls after Rohit’s dismissal, Vaas broke the 59-run partnership.

India scored 200 off 41.3 overs (254 balls). Sri Lanka had conceded 16 extras at that point. The sixth-wicket pair put on 50 off 58 balls. While Dhoni’s contribution to the partnership was 22, Pathan’s contribution to it was 28. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple. Dhoni’s half-century came off 68 balls. He was unbeaten.

Pathan, whose 41-ball innings included four boundaries, eventually scored 31. Seventy-five balls after Yuvraj’s dismissal, Amerasinghe broke the 58-run partnership. Kumar, who faced eight balls, scored half-a-dozen. Thirteen balls later, he was caught by Jayawardene. Amerasinghe broke the run-a-ball stand.

Harbhajan, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored three. Half-a-dozen balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Malinga, who was in seventh heaven. Ishant, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the mark. He was unbeaten.

Sri Lanka eventually scored 24 extras. India, who scored 239 for the loss of eight wickets off 49.1 overs, won by a couple of wickets with five balls to spare. Dilshan, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 11. Jayasuriya, who bowled two wicketless overs, conceded 14. Maharoof, who bowled 6.1 wicketless overs, conceded 43.

Muralitharan and Vaas bowled 10 overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 44, the latter conceded 27. Malinga bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 37, picking up two wickets. Amerasinghe, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 49. He picked up three scalps.
