Australia are triumphant; India D(hon)isappointed

India made a couple of changes to their playing (Pat)eleven – Praveen Kumar and Munaf made way for Virender Sehwag and Sreesanth. Australia made just one change to the eleven that last played the Indians – Mitchell Johnson made way for Brett Lee.

On winning the toss, Ricky Ponting, Australia’s skipper and the player of the match, chose to bat. Although his innings included three boundaries, Adam Gilchrist had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored just 16. Fifteen balls into the match, he was caught by Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Sreesanth broke the 21-run stand.

Australia scored 50 off 6.1 overs (38 balls). India had conceded an extra at that point. The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 33 balls. While Matthew Hayden’s contribution to the partnership was 25, Ponting’s contribution to it was 20. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was five.

Rohit, who faced three balls, scored a run. Three balls later, he was caught behind. Nathan Bracken broke the one-run (Gilchri)stand.

Australia eventually conceded 27 extras. India, who was dismissed for 299 off 49.1 overs, lost by 18 runs. Clarke, who bowled five wicketless overs, conceded 33.

Hopes bowled half-a-dozen overs, conceding 27. He picked up a wicket. Hogg bowled nine overs, conceding 62. He picked up a wicket. Bracken bowled 10 overs, conceding 53. He picked up a wicket. Clark bowling 10 overs, conceded 55. He picked up two wickets. Lee bowled 9.1 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 58, picking up five scalps.
