India D(hon)isappointed; England win series

India made just one change to their playing eleven – one Kumar (Praveen) made way for another (Vinay).

England made three changes to the (Pat)eleven that last played the Indians – Ben Stokes, James Anderson and Stuart Broad made way for One-day International debutant (and player of the match) Jonny Bairstow (the son of late Yorkshire and England wicketkeeper David), Samit and Jade Dernbach.

On winning the toss, Alastair Cook, England’s skipper, inserted the visitors.

The first Powerplay of India’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the 10th over. They had scored 43 without the loss of a wicket.

The second Powerplay of India’s innings – which was the bowling Powerplay – was between the 11th and the 15th over. They had scored 14 for the loss of a wicket.

India’s openers put on 50 off 11.1 overs (67 balls). England had conceded 10 extras at that point. While Parthiv Patel's contribution to the partnership was 15, Ajinkya Rahane’s contribution to it was 10.

Rahane, whose 47-ball (F)innings included three boundaries, eventually scored 26. Seventy-three balls into the match, he was caught by Steven. Jade Dernbach broke the 52-run partnership.

Parthiv, who faced 39 balls, eventually scored 19. Nineteen balls later, he was caught by Tim Bresnan. Graeme Swann broke the five-run stand.

Ninety-two balls into the match, the first drinks break was taken. India had conceded 57 for the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. Rahul Dravid was batting on a run.

India scored 100 off 23.1 overs (139 balls). England had conceded 11 extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 60 balls. While Dravid's contribution to the partnership was 26, Virat Kohli’s contribution to it was 24. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

Kohli’s half-century – which included four boundaries – came off 54 balls.

India scored 150 off 32.5 overs (197 balls). England had conceded a dozen extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 100 off 111 balls. While Dravid’s contribution to the partnership was 44, Kohli’s contribution to it was 55. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Dravid’s half-century – which included a couple of boundaries – came off 62 balls.

Thirty-seven overs into the match, the second drinks break was taken. India had conceded 188 for the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. While Dravid was batting on 56, Kohli was batting on 75.

India scored 200 off 39 overs (234 balls). India had conceded a dozen extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 150 off 144 balls. While Dravid’s contribution to the partnership was 62, Kohli’s contribution to it was 88. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Dravid, whose 79-ball innings included four boundaries, eventually scored 69. A hundred and sixty balls after Parthiv’s dismissal, Swann broke the 170-run partnership.

Kohli's ton – which included eight boundaries and a six – came off 87 balls.

Two hundred and fifty-eight legal balls into the match, a bowling review by England against Kohli was turned down by English umpire Nigel Llong.

Kohli, whose 93-ball innings included nine boundaries and a six, eventually scored 107. Four balls after the review against him was turned down, and nine balls after Dravid’s dismissal, he was dismissed hit wicket off the bowling of Swann, who broke the nine-run stand.

The third Powerplay of India’s innings – which was the batting Powerplay – was between the 45th and the 49th over. They had scored 51 balls for the loss of a wicket.

India scored 250 off 45.4 overs (274 balls). England had conceded 13 extras at that point.

Suresh Raina, who scored 15. His run-a-ball innings included a six. Thirty-two balls after Kohli’s dismissal, he was caught by Bresnan. Finn broke the 48-run stand.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India’s skipper and the player of the series, scored 50 off 26 balls, which included five boundaries and a couple of sixes. He was unbeaten.

Ravindra Jadeja, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. A couple of balls after Raina’s dismissal, he was caught by Ravi Bopara. Dernbach broke the four-run stand.

India scored 300 off 49.5 overs (299 balls). England had conceded 16 extras at that point.

Ravichandran Ashwin, who didn’t face a ball, was unbeaten.

England eventually conceded 18 extras. India scored 304 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 50 overs.

Bopara bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 24. Samit bowled eight wicketless overs, conceding 55. Bresnan bowled nine wicketless overs, conceding 62.

Finn bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 44, picking up a wicket. Dernbach, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 73. He picked up a couple of wickets. Swann, who bowled nine overs, conceded 34. He picked up three scalps.

England's target was revised to 241 off 34 overs.

The first Powerplay of England’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the eighth over. They scored 44 and lost a wicket – that of Craig Kieswetter, who scored 21. His 17-ball innings included four boundaries. Twenty-five balls into the chase, he was trapped leg before wicket by Vinay, who broke the 27-run stand.

The second Powerplay of England’s innings – which was the bowling Powerplay – was between the ninth and the 10th over. They scored 14 without the loss of a wicket.

England scored 50 off 8.3 overs (51 balls). India hadn’t conceded any extras at that point.

Fifty-five balls into the chase, the match was interrupted by rain. England had conceded 53 for the loss of a wicket at that point. While Cook was batting on 17, Jonathan was batting on 15.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off as many balls. While Cook’s contribution to the partnership was 28, Trott's contribution to it was 20. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

England scored 100 off 17 overs (103 balls). India had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Cook's half-century – which included five boundaries – came off 52 balls. He eventually faced 54 balls, failing to add to the aforementioned score. Eighty-two balls after Kieswetter’s dismissal, Kohli broke the 79-ball partnership.

Trott’s half-century included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes.

England scored 150 off 22.5 overs (138 balls). India had conceded three extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 36 balls. While Trott’s contribution to the partnership was 25, Ian Bell’s contribution to it was 26. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Bell, whose 21-ball innings included a couple of sixes, didn’t add to the aforementioned score. Thirty-eight balls after Cook's dismissal, he was caught by the substitute, Manoj Tiwary. R P Singh broke the 54-run partnership.

Trott, whose 63-ball innings included three boundaries and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 63. Nine balls later, he was caught by Singh. Jadeja broke the six-run stand.

The third Powerplay of England’s innings – which was the batting Powerplay – was between the 29th and the 31st over. They had scored 42 without the loss of a wicket.

England scored 200 off 29 overs (175 balls). India had conceded three extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 27 balls. While Bopara’s contribution to the partnership was 22, Bairstow's contribution to it was 33. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

Bopara, whose 22-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, scored 37. He was unbeaten, as was Bairstow, who scored 41. His 21-ball innings included a boundary and three sixes.

England, who conceded 241 for the loss of four wickets off 32.2 overs, won by half-a-dozen wickets with 10 balls to spare. Munaf Patel and Ashwin bowled four wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 26, the latter conceded 25.

Jadeja bowled five overs, conceding 52. He picked up a wicket. Kohli bowled half-a-dozen overs, conceding 44. He picked up a wicket. Vinay bowled 6.2 overs, conceding 42. He picked up a wicket. Singh bowled seven overs, conceding 51. He picked up a wicket.

England won the five-match series 3-0.
