Another tie D(hon)isappoints England, India

India made no changes to their playing eleven. England made just one (Dernba)change to the eleven that last played the Indians – Jade made way for Steven Finn.

On winning the toss, Alastair Cook, England’s skipper, inserted the visitors.

The first Powerplay of India’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the 10th over. They scored 38 without the loss of a wicket.

The second Powerplay of India’s innings – which was the bowling Powerplay – was between the 11th and the 15th over. They scored 32 and lost a wicket.

India’s openers scored 50 off 11.4 overs (70 balls). England had conceded five extras at that point. While Parthiv Patel's contribution to the partnership was 15, Ajinkya Rahane's contribution to it was 33.

Rahane, whose 53-ball innings included five boundaries and a six, scored 38. Eighty-one balls into the match, he was trapped leg before wicket by Stuart Broad, who broke the 65-run partnership.

Parthiv, whose 32-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, scored 27. Eleven balls later, he was caught by Ravi Bopara, the player of the match. Broad broke the five-run stand.

Ninety-two balls into the match, the first drinks break was taken. India had scored 70 for the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. Rahul Dravid hadn’t opened his account.

India scored 100 off 21.5 overs (131 balls). The number of extras England had conceded at that point gave them no reason to be in seventh heaven.

Virat Kohli, whose 36-ball innings included a boundary, scored 16. Sixty balls after Parthiv’s dismissal, he was caught by Craig Kieswetter. Graeme Swann broke the 39-run partnership. 

Dravid, whose 33-ball innings included three boundaries, eventually scored 19. Three balls later, he was caught by Swann, who broke the one-run stand.

Thirty-two overs into the match, the second drinks break was taken. India had scored 121 for the loss of four wickets at that point. While Suresh Raina was batting on seven, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India's skipper, was batting on four.

Raina, whose 75-ball (F)innings included seven boundaries and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 84. A hundred and forty-three balls later, he was caught by Ben Stokes. The 6’7” tall paceman broke the 169-run partnership.

Dhoni, whose 71-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries and three sixes, eventually scored 78. He was unbeaten, as was Ravindra Jadeja, who didn’t face a ball.

India scored 280 for the loss of five wickets off 50 overs. Bopara, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded a dozen. James Anderson and Tim Bresnan bowled 10 wicketless overs apiece. While the former, whose spell included a couple of maidens, conceded 57, the latter, whose spell included a maiden, conceded 51.

Finn, who bowled 9.4 overs, conceded 54. He picked up a wicket. Swann bowled nine overs, including a maiden. He conceded 49, picking up a couple of wickets. Broad, who bowled 9.2 overs, conceded 52. He picked up a couple of scalps.

Bell, whose 73-ball innings included three boundaries, eventually scored 54. A hundred and twenty balls after Trott's dismissal, he was caught by the substitute, Manoj Tiwary. Jadeja broke the 98-run partnership.

Bopara’s half-century – which came off 62 balls and took 62 minutes – came off five boundaries.

Although Ben Stokes' 11-ball innings included four boundaries, he had no reason to be in seventh heaven. Nineteen balls after Bell’s dismissal, he was caught by Ravichandran Ashwin, who broke the 14-run stand.

England scored 200 off 39.5 overs (240 balls). India had conceded four extras at that point.

Bresnan, whose 22-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, eventually scored 27. Forty-one balls after Stokes’ dismissal, Singh broke the 47-run stand.

Swann, whose 23-ball innings included three boundaries, didn’t add to the aforementioned score. Thirty-nine balls later, Munaf Patel ran him out, breaking the 50-run partnership.

The eighth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Bopara, whose 111-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries, eventually scored 96. The next ball, he was caught by Jadeja off the bowling of Munaf.

Neither Finn nor Anderson faced a ball. Both were unbeaten.

India eventually conceded eight extras. England scored 270 for the loss of eight wickets off 48.5 overs. The match was tied under the Duckworth-Lewis method. Raina bowled two wicketless overs, conceding 13.

Jadeja and Kumar bowled nine overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 60, the latter conceded 35. Patel, who bowled 9.5 overs, conceded 54. He picked up a wicket. Ashwin bowled 10 overs, conceding 44. He picked up a wicket. Singh bowled nine overs, conceding 59. He picked up three scalps.

England led the five-match series 2-0.
