India
made (Viswana)three changes to their playing eleven – Sanjay Manjrekar,
Sadanand and Sanjeev Sharma made way for Mohammad Azharuddin, Kiran More and
Maninder Singh.
The
West Indians made just a couple of changes – David Williams and Patrick Patterson
made way for Desmond Haynes and Courtney Walsh. On winning the toss, Vivian
Richards, their skipper, inserted India.
Arun
Lal, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. He was caught by Jeff Dujon.
Walsh broke the three-run stand. Krishnamachari Srikkanth, whose 44-ball
innings included four boundaries, scored 28. Eldine Baptiste broke the 47-run
stand.
Mohinder
Amarnath, whose 148-ball innings four boundaries and the only six of the Indian
innings, scored 100. He was unbeaten, and was adjudged the player of the match.
Woorkeri Raman, whose 23-ball (Benjam)innings included a couple of boundaries,
scored 13. Winston broke the 23-run stand.
Azharuddin,
who faced eight balls, scored just a couple. Baptiste broke the three-run
stand. Kapil Dev, whose 44-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 45. He
was caught by Carl Hooper. Benjamin broke the 66-run stand.
Ravi,
India’s skipper, scored 28. His 30-ball innings included three boundaries. He
was caught by Baptiste. Winston Davis broke the S(hastr)ixth-wicket stand,
which was worth 71. More, who faced seven balls, scored nine. He was unbeaten.
The
West Indies conceded five extras. India scored 230 for the loss of six wickets
off 50 overs. Hooper, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded five. He was
wicketless, as was Richards, who bowled eight overs, including a maiden. He
conceded 31.
Davis
and Walsh bowled 10 overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former
conceded 69, the latter, whose spell included a maiden, conceded 42. Baptiste
and Benjamin bowled 10 overs, including a couple of maidens, each. They picked
up a couple of scalps apiece. While the former conceded 41, the latter conceded
38.
Haynes,
whose 22-ball innings included a boundary, scored a dozen. Dev broke the 18-run
stand. Simmons, whose 96-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 67. He
was caught by Srikkanth, who broke the 108-run stand.
Richards,
whose eight-ball innings included a boundary, scored nine. He was caught by
Lal. Srikkanth broke the 18-run stand. Richie Richardson, whose 90-ball innings
included five boundaries, scored 49. He was trapped leg before by Srikkanth,
who broke the 11-run stand.
The
fifth-wicket pair put on 37. Gus Logie, whose 32-ball innings included a couple
of boundaries, scored 29. He was run out. Hooper, whose 29-ball innings
included three boundaries and the only six of the West Indian innings, scored
39. He was unbeaten.
Dujon,
whose 18-ball innings included a boundary, scored nine. He was stumped by More.
Shastri broke the 31-run stand. Baptiste faced three balls, scoring as many. He
was unbeaten.
India
conceded 14 extras. The West Indies scored 231 for the loss of six wickets off
49.1 overs, winning by four wickets with five balls to spare. Chetan Sharma
bowled five wicketless overs, conceding 25.
Amarnath
bowled six overs, conceding 14. He was wicketless, as were Maninder Singh (who
bowled 9.1 overs, conceding 55) and Arshad Ayub (who bowled 10 overs, conceding
37). Shastri bowled four overs, conceding 24. He picked up a wicket.
Dev
bowled nine overs, including a maiden. He conceded 37, picking up a wicket.
Srikkanth, who bowled six overs, conceded 25. He picked up three scalps.
The
West Indians led the seven-match series 4-1.
