Australia outplay the disG(avaska)raceful Indians

India made just one change to their P(ati)laying eleven – Sandeep made way for Gundappa Viswanath. Australia made just one change to theirs as well – Shaun Graf made way for Graeme Wood.

Greg Chappell, the Aussie skipper, won the toss, inserting India. Chetan Chauhan faced 16 balls, scoring just a couple. Dennis Lillee broke the two-run stand. Dilip Vengsarkar, who faced 20 balls, scored three. He was caught by Rod Marsh. Len Pascoe broke the 22-run stand.

Roger Binny, who faced 44 balls, scored 16. His innings included a couple of boundaries. He was caught by Marsh. Chappell broke the stand, which was worth a couple. Sunil Gavaskar, India’s skipper, batted at number five. He faced six balls, scoring one. Chappell broke the six-run stand.

Yashpal Sharma, who faced 16 balls, scored six. His innings included a boundary. Chappell trapped him leg before wicket, breaking the 18-run stand. Kapil Dev, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. Rodney Hogg trapped him leg before wicket, breaking the four-run stand.

Viswanath, who faced 22 balls, scored 23. His innings included three boundaries. He was caught by Marsh. Hogg broke the seventh-wicket (Gundap)partnership, which was worth just a run. 

Karsan Ghavri, who faced eight balls, scored a run. He was caught by Marsh. Chappell broke the five-run stand. The (Kirma)ninth-wicket stand was worth a run. Syed, who faced 13 balls, scored four. He was run out.

Yograj Singh wasn’t in seventh heaven, because he didn’t get off the mark. But he was unbeaten. Dilip Doshi faced four balls, scoring a couple. Chappell broke the last-wicket stand, which was worth a couple.

Australia conceded five extras. India were dismissed for 63 off 25.5 overs. Pascoe, who bowled four overs, conceded 26. He picked up a wicket, as did Lillee, who bowled five overs, including a couple of maidens. He conceded three.

Hogg bowled seven overs, including a couple of maidens. He conceded 14 and picked up a couple of scalps. Chappell, the player of the match, bowled 9.5 overs, including five maidens. He conceded 15 and picked up a fifer.

John Dyson faced 59 balls, scoring 13. He was unbeaten. Wood, who faced 24 balls, scored 11. His innings included a boundary. He was caught by Binny. Kapil broke the 18-run stand.

Chappell, who faced 33 balls, scored 33. His innings included three boundaries. He was unbeaten.

India conceded seven extras. Australia scored 64 for the loss of one wicket off 21 overs, winning by nine wickets with 29 overs to spare.

Doshi bowled an over, conceding six. He was wicketless, as was Binny, who bowled three overs, including a maiden. He conceded 13.

Ghavri and Yograj bowled four wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 14, the latter, whose spell included a maiden, conceded 19. Kapil bowled nine overs, including five maidens. He conceded 15, picking up the only wicket to fall.
