India’s S(uni)lide continues; Australia win

India, who had alRe(a)d(d)y been eliminated, made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Syed Kirmani and Yograj Singh made way for Bharath and Kirti Azad. Australia made just one change to theirs – John Dyson made way for Rodney Hogg. Sunil Gavaskar, India’s skipper, won the toss, putting the Australians in.

Graeme Wood, who faced 28 balls, scored 26. His innings included a couple of boundaries. He was caught by Roger Binny. Sandeep Patil broke the 48-run stand. Greg Chappell, Australia’s skipper, faced five balls, scoring a couple. He was caught by Yashpal Sharma. Patil was in seventh heaven.

Kim Hughes, who faced 50 balls, scored 39. His innings included three boundaries. He was caught by Kapil Dev. Binny broke the 100-run stand. Allan Border, the player of the match, faced 131 balls, scoring 85. His innings included six boundaries. He was caught by Azad. Dilip Doshi broke the 26-run stand.

Dev (whose spell included a maiden), Ghavri and Patil (whose spell included a couple of maidens) bowled 10 overs apiece, picking up a Kapil of scalps each. They conceded 46, 39 and 34, respectively.

The Indian openers put on a couple. Gavaskar, who faced eight balls, scored a run. Lillee trapped him leg before wicket. Binny's contribution to the second-wicket stand, which was worth 57, was 34. His 45-ball innings included four boundaries. Graf trapped him leg before wicket.

Viswanath, who faced 19 balls, wasn’t in seventh heaven. He was caught by Greg, who broke the second-wicket (Gundap)partnership, which was worth 19. Yashpal Sharma, who faced 34 balls, scored 25. His innings included a couple of boundaries.

Vengsarkar, who faced 74 balls, scored 52. His innings included five boundaries. He was caught by Marsh. Hogg broke the 23-run stand. Patil, who faced 42 balls, scored 27. His innings included a couple of boundaries. Lillee broke the 26-run stand.

Kapil scored 20. His 35-ball innings included a boundary. He was caught by Marsh. Lillee broke the 35-run stand. Azad, who faced 24 balls, scored 19. His innings included a couple of boundaries. Lillee broke the one-run stand.

Ghavri, who faced 10 balls, scored 11. His innings included a couple of boundaries. He was unbeaten, as was Reddy, who scored eight. His 11-ball innings included a boundary. The Aussies conceded 11 extras. India, who scored 215 for the loss of eight wickets off 50 overs, lost by 27 runs.

Len Pascoe, who bowled 10 wicketless overs, conceded 64. Graf bowled 10 overs, including a couple of maidens, conceding 36. He picked up a wicket, as did Hogg, who bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 34.
