Rohit-led India trounced by England

India made one change to their playing eleven – Shreyas Iyer made way for Virat Kohli.

England made no changes to the eleven that last played the Indians.

On winning the toss, Rohit Sharma, India’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of England’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the 10th over. They scored 46, and lost a wicket.

Jason Roy, whose 33-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 23. Fifty-three balls into the match, he was caught by Suryakumar Yadav. Hardik Pandya broke the 41-run stand.

The second Powerplay of England’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the 11th and the 40th over. They scored 155, and lost five wickets.

England scored 50 off 11 overs (66 balls). India had conceded an extra at that point.

Jonny Bairstow, whose run-a-ball innings included (Cha)half-a-dozem boundaries, scored 38. Thirty-five balls after Roy’s dismissal, Yuzvendra broke the 31-run stand.

It was at that point that the drinks break was taken. Joe Root was unbea‘ten’.

A hundred and six balls (17.4 overs) into the match, England sought a batting review. Root, the batsman, faced 21 balls, eventually scoring 11. It was struck down by English umpire Richard Kettleborough. He was trapped leg before wicket by Chahal, who broke the 10-run stand.

Jos Buttler, England’s skipper, faced five balls, scoring four. Half-a-dozen balls later, Mohammed Shami broke the five-run stand.

England scored 100 off 20.3 overs (123 balls). India had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

A hundred and twenty-nine balls (21.3 overs) into the match, England sought a batting review. Ben Stokes, the batsman, scored 21 off 23 balls, which included three boundaries. It was struck down by Kettleborough. He was trapped leg before wicket by Chahal, who broke the 15-run stand.

Liam Livingstone, whose run-a-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, scored 33. Forty-five balls later, he was caught by the substitute, Shreyas. Hardik broke the 46-run stand.

It was at that point that the drinks break was taken. Moeen Ali had scored a dozen.

England scored 150 off 29.4 overs (178 balls). India had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

The seventh-wicket pair put on 50 off 63 balls. While Ali’s contribution to the partnership was 26, David Willey’s contribution to it was 24. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

England scored 200 off 39.4 overs (238 balls). The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave India no reason to be in seventh heaven.

The third Powerplay of England’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the 41st and the 50th over. They scored 45, and lost four wickets.

Ali, whose 64-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, eventually scored 47. Thirteen overs after Livingstone’s dismissal, he was caught by Ravindra Jadeja. Chahal broke the 62-run partnership.

Willey, whose 49-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, eventually scored 41. Five overs later, he was caught by Shreyas. Jasprit Bumrah broke the 27-run stand.

Craig Overton, who faced 18 balls, was unbea‘ten’.

Brydon Carse, who faced four balls, scored a couple. He was trapped leg be‘four’ wicket by Prasidh Krishna, who broke the three-run stand.

Reece Topley, the player of the match, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored just three. Eight balls later, Bumrah broke the six-run stand.  

India eventually conceded 13 extras. England were dismissed for 246 off 49 overs.

Jadeja, who bowled five wicketless overs, conceded 17.

Krishna, who bowled eight overs, conceded 53. He picked up a wicket, as did Shami, who bowled 10 overs, conceding 48.

Pandya, who bowled half-a-dozen overs, conceded 28. He picked up a couple of wickets, as did Bumrah, who bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 49.

Chahal, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 47. He picked up four scalps.

Rishabh Pant, who faced five balls, didn’t get off the mark. Nine balls later, he was caught by the substitute, Phil Salt. Carse broke the two-run stand.

Kohli, whose 25-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 16. Half-a-dozen balls later, he was caught by Buttler. Willey broke the two-run stand.

India scored 50 off 14.5 overs (89 balls). England had conceded five extras at that point.

Sixteen overs into the chase, the drinks break was taken. India had scored 57 for the loss of four wickets at that point. While Suryakumar had scored 15, Hardik had scored a dozen.

A hundred and one balls (16.5 overs) into the chase, England sought a bowling review. Suryakumar was the batsman. It was struck down by Kettleborough.

Suryakumar eventually scored 27 off 29 balls, which included a boundary and a six. Fifty-four balls after Kohli’s dismissal, Topley broke the 42-run stand.

India scored 100 off 26.3 overs (159 balls). England had conceded five extras at that point.

Hardik, whose 44-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 29. Forty-one balls after Suryakumar’s dismissal, he was caught by Livingstone. Ali broke the 28-run stand.

Thirty-three overs into the chase, the drinks break was taken. India had scored 136 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets at that point. While Jadeja had scored 27, Shami had scored 21.

Shami, whose 28-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, eventually scored 23. Forty-seven balls after Hardik’s dismissal, he was caught by Stokes. Topley broke the 39-run stand.

The eighth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Jadeja, whose 44-ball innings included a boundary and a six, eventually scored 29. The (Livingsto)next ball, he was dismissed.

Bumrah, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored a couple. He was unbeaten.

Chahal, who faced 13 balls, scored just three. Nineteen balls later, Topley broke the five-run stand.

Krishna, who faced three balls, didn’t get off the mark. Three balls later, he was caught by Buttler. Topley broke the one-run stand.

England eventually scored eight extras. India, who were bundled out for 146 off 38.5 overs, lost by 100 runs.

Overton bowled seven wicketless overs, conceding 22.

Livingstone bowled two overs, including a maiden. He conceded four, picking up a wicket.

Ali bowled four overs, conceding 30. He picked up a wicket.

Carse bowled seven overs, conceding 32. He picked up a wicket.

Willey bowled nine overs, including a couple of maidens. He conceded 27, picking up a wicket.

Topley bowled 9.5 overs, including a couple of maidens. He conceded 24, picking up half-a-dozen scalps.
